Gianvito Vilé
Background
Prof. Dr. Gianvito Vilé is an Associate Professor of Chemical Processes at Politecnico di Milano, where he leads a research group focused on catalysis and process engineering for sustainable chemical manufacturing. His research integrates atomically precise catalytic materials, continuous-flow reactor technologies, and automation to develop high-performance, scalable, and sustainable reaction platforms, with particular emphasis on pharmaceutical applications.
He obtained his Ph.D. from ETH Zurich, where he was awarded the ETH Medal for the outstanding doctoral research, and the Dimitris N. Chorafas Award. Over the years, he has received several awards, including, among others, the "Alfredo di Braccio" award by the Italian National Academy, and the "Robert Karl Grasselli" prize in catalysis by the Italian Chemical Society, and the Felder award by the pharmaceutical company Bracco. His research has been supported by the European Research Council through an ERC Starting Grant (2022) and an ERC Proof of Concept Grant (2024). Over the past five years, his group has secured over €6 million in competitive research grants and have been involved in projects totaling more than €17 million, including partnerships where applicable. The funding comes from public institutions (European Commission, Italian Ministry of University and Research), pharmaceutical companies (Bayer, Versalis, Procos, and Bracco Imaging), and private foundations (Fondazione Bracco and Fondazione Cariplo).
Prof. Vilé serves as an expert evaluator and panel member for multiple national and international funding agencies. He is a Fellow of the Young Academy of Europe, a prestigious pan-European network of top early-career scientists, was elected Junior Member of the Italian Academy of Engineering, and serves on the Editorial and Advisory Boards of leading journals for the American Chemical Society, Wiley, Royal Society of Chemistry, and Elsevier. He is also Member of the European Commission panel on “Green Pharmaceuticals” and of the European Commission panel on “A new MSCA Green Charter”.
